antique gold medallion chenille upholstery fabric

Antique gold medallion chenille upholstery

Antique gold medallion chenille upholstery fabric is a beautiful soft fabric that lends a classical look to any piece of furniture. Antique gold medallion chenille upholstery fabric also wears well, allowing it to be a wonderful choice for reupholstering furniture to last throughout the years. The definition of upholstery is the padding or covering on a piece of furniture.

Upholsterers are the experts to speak with when trying to decide on the fabric for your furniture. Once all of the webbing and padding is in place, Upholsterers sew the fabric pieces together and attach them to the frame of the piece of furniture using staples, tacks, and glue. They can give you advice as to how a type of material will wear and what colors are best suited for different styles of furniture.

Chenille is a type of fabric that was developed in Dalton, Georgia. The term is actually a French term that means caterpillar. Around the turn of the century a woman named Catherine Evans Whitener, recreated a bedspread in a hand crafted pattern she had seen. The technique she used involved sewing thick cotton yarns with a running stitch into unbleached muslin. She then clipped the ends of the yarn so they would fluff out. Finally, she washed the spread in hot water to shrink the muslin and hold the yarn in place. The bedspreads were an instant success and soon created a thriving industry in the Dalton area.

The demand for Chenille became so great that the Chenille industry is credited with helping thousands of people keep their heads above water during the depression. Antique gold medallion chenille upholstery fabric can have many different styles. A popular style of gold medallion chenille is the Victorian style. The Victorian pattern draws its influence from gothic forms with elaborate ornamentation and was the first furniture style of mass production. The medallion patterns are also found in a myriad of colors allowing for an individual to suite their decorating needs. Antique gold medallion chenille upholstery fabric will add a beautiful finish to any piece of furniture, and in turn to any room.
